Cute Glasses…Why Don’t They Stay on your Face?
I’ve added some pictures of Brinley in her glasses just click photos and glasses. They are so cute! However, I would like to let the whole world know about how terrible Standard Optical is. So here goes…
When I found out Brinley needed glasses I talked with my insurance and then talked with several stores. None of them had infant frames or could fit infant frames. When I called Standard Optical in Orem the manager, Peter, told me that yes they could fit for infants and they had a few sets of frames. The next day I go in and there’s one set of frames that kind of fit. The ladies helping say that when the frames come in they can cut them and fit them specifically for Brinley. Sounds great.
A week later the frames come in and I’m all set for her fitting, but they all look at each other like they’re not sure what to do. One optician says, “I don’t know about this we’ve never fit an infant before.” The others all nod and agree. What??!! Wouldn’t this have been important to notify me of BEFORE I order from you. Oh wait I did ask about that and you said you can fit for infants…hmmm. Then, one optician starts adjusting the nose piece and the temples. This was on Friday. Monday morning I go back by because they are constantly sliding off her face. Terrible fit. I ask them to cut the sides shorter or do something so it’s a tighter fit. Once again they’re all looking at each other and a different optician says, “I’ve never fitted a baby before. I don’t know what to do.” She asks for help and the others just kind of look at her. Finally, one of them gets the bright idea to bend the sides back more around her ears. By time I get home they’re falling down again. I call the corporate office that afternoon and they assure me that the manager can issue a refund or get the frame that I want. (We found a specialty frame online.) They transfer me to the wrong store so I spend the rest of the afternoon talking to the wrong manager. Great. She did call and talk with Orem’s manager and he did not return my call. So on Tuesday I call him up, and it’s Peter again. Remember him from the beginning of our story? I tell Peter the entire situation and how I asked him before and he told me they do fit infants and then I found out he lied to me. I even tell him about Brinley’s situation and that the glasses are to correct her crossed eyes so that she can avoid surgery so it’s a big deal that we have good frames and a good fit. I tell him that I’m tired of traveling to and from his store. I ask him to assure me I’ll get a refund or the specialty frames I found. He replies, “absolutely.” So I go into the store on Wednesday and he wants to fit the frames again. No refund, no order for new frames. He even tells me, that I don’t want these specialty infant frames because, “they’re ugly.” Oh thanks, Mr. Expert. I show him that after his fitting there’s still room for the glasses to slide down. He says, “oh no, there’s pressure it won’t fall down.” So guess what happened within a couple of hours. You got it, they started sliding down. My frustration had reached its breaking point. I call and leave a message for the head honcho of corporate’s customer service dept. and once again no returned call. So on Friday I call Peter up again tell him the issue and ask him to just refund me since he doesn’t have any frames to fix the problem and he can’t do what he said he could. He quickly replies, “we don’t give refunds only in store credit.” But didn’t he say he would give a refund? And didn’t corporate say he could? He then tells me to be positive it may take 4 or 5 fittings. Gee thanks.
I’ve now started an official inquiry with American Express. I’m hoping we can get them to return the glasses and refund our money. And I’ll make it my personal mission to tell everyone I know about the craphole that is Standard Optical.

I ordered my glasses from there too, and had an issue with them as well. They also would not give me a refund. I had to go back and forth to try and get the issue taken care of before we moved, and they ended up having to mail me the glasses because they “lost” the first pair that they ordered for me. Sorry you’ve had so many problems too!

They’re terrible. I’m doing a report to BBB as well. Hopefully one day they’ll be legit.
